Play! Children's Toy

The perfect wooden toy for your child

Our “Play!” project brief was to design a high quality children's toy made from hardwood that could be easily mass manufactured.  After researching various different children's toys available, I decided to make a toy frog due to appealing to both genders and being an easy shape to make. To make the design more appealing, I incorporated a smaller frog to sit on the back of the big frog which becomes a separate toy. The main idea of the toy is that instead of legs, the frog has wheels so the child can drag it along by the ribbon tongue. The toy is directed towards children aged 2-4.

The original design

My design is of a basic frog with a smaller modular frog that sits on it’s back. The frog is pulled along by some ribbon that comes out of the mouth like a tongue. The back wheels are slightly bigger than the front wheels to mimic those of an actual frog. I have offset all of the wheels from the centre by approximately 3mm, so that when the child drags the toy around by the string, the frog will move side-to-side gently imitating a light jumping/bopping movement.
